We discuss the U(A)(1) Goldberger-Treiman relation and suggest that in contrast with the nonsinglet channel the contribution from higher mass states to the singlet axial-vector coupling of the nucleon, g(A)0, may be comparable to the contribution from the lowest-lying state eta'. Experimental results from both J/psi radiative decays and ppBAR annihilation at rest on the eta (1440) particle are analyzed to support our suggestion. The expected cancellation between the contributions of these states is therefore possible.
