AbstractUsing diffraction enhanced imaging (DEI), high contrast and high spatial resolution can be obtained on biological and medical samples, which are mainly composed by light atoms such as C, H, 0, etc. Experiments show that the crystal reflectivity is the highest at the peak position of the rocking curve, determining shortest collection time for imaging. Therefore, using the DEI technique at the peak position of the rocking curve results in a reduced dose delivered to the sample. Although planar images of DEI exhibit high contrast and spatial resolution, the problem of the superposition of structural information contained in thick samples can not be easily resolved. As a consequence it is mandatory to combine DEI with a computerized tomography (CT) method. At the Beijing Synchrotron Radiation Facility (BSRF) we selected a fly as a test sample to carry out CT experiments for the first time using the peak-position images of DEL Experimental data show a spatial resolution of the CT images of about tens of micrometers, which implies possible applications of the DEI technique to image processes on biological and medical samples expanding the fields of application of the technique such as early diagnosis of specific diseases on cells or tissues.
