In Ba(1 - x)SrxZr(BO3)(2): Tb3+, the VUV excitation spectrum consists of one broad band at 120 - 170 nm and some bands ranging from 160 - 300 nm. The former is assigned to the absorption of the borate groups. The latter bands are due to the transitions of Tb3+ (4f(8)-> 4f(5)d). The host absorption band moves about 30 nm to the high energy region with x increasing. As the Ce3+, is doped in the samples, the absorption band evidently decreases in VUV region. The emission spectrum reveals an intense and sharp (546 nm) green emission from Tb3+ (D-5(4)->F-7(5)) transition and three other weaker emission D-5(4)->F-7((6,4,3)) at 492, 589, 624 nm under 147 nm excitation.
