AbstractThis paper describes the simulation by EGS4 code for the positron converter on BEPC LINAC-based slow positron beam and the radiation shield. Results show that the slow positron yield will be 3.5x10(6)e(+)/s (Ta target,1.5cm thick, phi10mm) or 4.3x10(6)e(+)/s (W target, 1.3cm thick, phi10mm) when the LINAC is running under the parasitic mode. Meanwhile, the slow positron yield will be 4.7x10(8)e(+)/s (Ta target, 1.3 cm thick, phi10mm) or 5.9x10(8)e(+)/s (W target, 1.1 cm thick, phi10mm) when the LINAC is running under the long-pulse-width mode. A 3m thick concrete wall inserted with a 1m long x 1m wide x 0.2m thick Fe plate is needed for the radiation shield and placed behind the positron converter.
